This blog is a collection of pictures of urban infrastructure, typically fire hydrants and manhole covers that are inscribed with dates. Why? Because these things have withstood floods, suburbanization, Urban Renewal, riots, gentrification, shifting modes of transportation and every other creative and destructive force that has been thrown at cities through the decades. I think they deserve some credit.

Submit Your Pictures!!
Whether they are of fire hydrants, manhole covers, bridges, railroads, subways, canals or whatever else you find when exploring the city, you can submit the pictures to be posted on this site. The only rule is that the subject has to have a date on it. There is no age limit, it can be color, black and white, with people in the picture, without people... Your choice.
With that said, I am trying to focus on infrastructure, so things like headstones in cemeteries might not really fit the bill. And while there are a lot of buildings inscribed with the date of their construction, for now, I am going to stay away from those as well.
So if you have pictures that you would like to post, send them to:

along with any information that you would like to include about the picture, preferably including the city and the photographer's name.
